Labor and Employment

Thompson & Knight represents private and public employers in all aspects of the employment relationship. Our clients include small employers and Fortune 100 companies, encompassing the Firm's broad industry range.

Our attorneys have the impressive credentials necessary to advise clients and represent them in employment disputes. Several Thompson & Knight attorneys are Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and were selected by their peers around the country for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2011 by Woodward/White Inc. Thompson & Knight was recently named a "Go-To Law Firm" in Labor and Employment by American Lawyer Media (ALM). Chambers USA praised Thompson & Knight as having labor and employment attorneys who "know the law inside and out" and are admired for their "thoughtful and practical approach."

We help our clients navigate the complex and extensive regulatory system applicable to employers by representing management in employment law compliance, enforcement, and other matters before the governing federal and state agencies. Our attorneys take an active approach to working with clients on the many employment issues that arise by providing assistance with the development and modification of policies, employee and manager training, and advice on specific employee complaints and contemplated employment actions. In characteristic Thompson & Knight cross-department cooperation, we work closely with the Firm's employee benefits, tax, and corporate lawyers in preparing employment contracts and non-competition agreements.

When in the best interests of our clients, we attempt to resolve employment disputes through pre-litigation or mediation or other alternative dispute resolution. However, in court we are strong and experienced advocates and when necessary we are fully prepared to go to trial and aggressively represent employers against all workplace and employment-related allegations. We are equally accomplished at representing clients in appeals, as a number of our labor and employment attorneys are part of the Firm's appellate practice group. This strength at dealing with employment-related lawsuits and appeals helps us counsel employers on how to avoid litigation over employment policies and personnel decisions.
