Africa

Thompson & Knight is one the few leading international law firms with a presence in Africa. With a deep understanding of the local businesses, culture, and languages, our attorneys have assisted clients in Angola, South Africa, Libya, Niger, Tunisia, Tanzania, Congo-Brazzaville, Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Chad, Mauritania, Benin, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Madagascar, the Ivory Coast, Gabon, and Mozambique, among numerous others.

Much of our African representation involves the global energy industry. In addition to industry-focused counsel, we have also handled mergers and acquisitions, finance and tax matters, distribution disputes, and litigation in which our attorneys have taken depositions and developed evidence, all while working with African-based attorneys.

Africa's leading producers and retailers of petroleum products are among our clients. We also represent a number of African energy service clients, such as an offshore energy provider. Our attorneys have special strength advising African-based and U.S. energy companies on financial transactions, and we represent both public and private companies in energy projects in Africa. We regularly provide assistance to Petro South Africa (PetroSA) Corporation in matters related to farming in Nigeria and gas sale agreements for the South African domestic market. In addition, we advise various clients regarding business activities in the Republic of South Africa, particularly related to Black Economic Empowerment opportunities and U.S./South Africa joint ventures. Our attorneys have designed the structuring and financings for oil and gas projects, natural resource developments, electric power, transportation, and industrializations throughout the African continent.

Thompson & Knight has long been a believer in the great potential of the African continent and our longstanding presence in the region is testament to these beliefs.
